Panel - Examining the Current Racial Climate (past)

Panelists will share their experiences as Deaf people of color living here in NJ and in the world at large.
There will be an open discussion on discrimination and the power and privilege and its effects on the consumer/interpreter relationship. Brainstorming dialogue will examine various methods of balancing the power and providing insights regarding interpreting to effectively give power to the rightful owner

Participants will: learn about the various types of implicit and explicit discrimination experienced by POC, be involved in dialogue, leave with an enhanced sensitivity to various cultures and experiences and immediately applicable techniques to enhance their interpreting and interpersonal skills to provide optimal communication between Deaf and hearing consumers.

*Presented in ASL with no English interpretation*
