Who's Who
- Matthew Disch
- Director
Raised in a hearing family in Cleveland, Ohio, Matt communicated in sign language and spoken English combined where his parents were encouraged to go and socialize at Deaf clubs and take sign language classes. Matt’s parents were recommended send him to a mainstreamed elementary school in a nearby hometown where the school offered a group of Deaf students a class with a CODA teacher through grades K-2. Then, he was placed in another school with a full-time interpreter from grades 3-9. Matt attended Model Secondary School for the Deaf at Gallaudet University and graduated in 1995.
Matt attended NTID and studied computer graphics and layout for pre-press production. He became involved in teaching and coordinating sign language classes for RITSign through his peers while he was a student. As a student, he was offered to become an adjunct faculty and taught ASL 1-5 courses through Deaf Studies in Department of American Sign Language and Interpreting Education at NTID since 2002. After meeting his wife as an interpreting student, he started freelancing as a Deaf Interpreter and attended workshops. Since 2003, he mostly works closely with Deaf-Blind clients in tactile and close-vision interpreting in education setting. He also does Deaf interpreting in medical setting occasionally.
Matt currently owns his business in Web design and development since 2002. For leisure, he travels and races Snipes for sailing during the summer and is a volunteer instructor for the Lounsbury Adaptive Ski Program at Holiday Valley Resort in Ellicottville, NY during the winter. He and his wife, Jennifer, have a newborn son, Cayden.
